Lorenz Attraction
Lorenz Attraction are OSC stalwarts Neil Cosgrove and Andy Elmsley. They develop their own open source collaborative DAW – LNX_Studio – which they use to cross-breed analogue toys and unforgiving code to form eclectic electronica pop-beat happenstance. Overflow is Lorenz Attraction’s debut album, which they will be playing in full. Check out the first single off the album “See the Sign / Finding” here: https://lorenzattraction.bandcamp.com/releases.

Cutlasses
Cutlasses is the solo project of Scott Pitkethly. The compositions combine field recordings, recorded from various sites around the British Isles, which are heavily manipulated using DIY electronic controllers and effects he has designed and built himself, accompanied by live guitar drones and melodies. Taking cues from the world of sound art but always trying to apply pop sensibilities, the result is lush and cinematic soundscapes topped with delicate melody.

His new album, ‘Clutching At Conscious’ will be available for the first time at the gig, there will be a very limited edition of CD copies of the album with hand block-printed cases, as well as digital downloads.

Steve Gisby - Iterative Music

OSC Feb > Steve Gisby “Iterative Music”

Open Sound Collective presents:

Steve Gisby “Iterative Music”

Iterative Music is an ongoing series of pieces that I’ve been composing since
2014. The pieces are identical in terms of structure and use a simple mathematical process that involves gradually assembling and then superimposing five layers of audio material, with each layer building up in the exact same way. Drawing influence from Steve Reich and Tom Johnson, the pieces are simultaneously predictable and unpredictable, and explore the balance between performer autonomy and strict, logical systems.

In the presentation, I’ll be talking about the ideas behind the concept, how the pieces are created, and also the challenges involved in performing them live.

About Steve:

Steve is a composer, bassist and educator based near London, UK, and holds a
PhD in composition from Brunel University. His music has been performed internationally, and he has given papers and presentations at universities across the UK, Europe and the USA. He also works as an examiner for Trinity College London on their Rock & Pop syllabus, having conducted exams in the UK, Northern Ireland, Italy, India, Vietnam, South Africa, Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand, Hong Kong, Macau, Dubai and Egypt.
